Mariko Irie Finds a Soul Mate in Gustav Klimt

2/9/2017

Comments

I've always been fascinated with Gustav Klimt's paintings. His earliest works were academic and realistic, before embarking on an exploration of symbolism with extensive use of gold leaf.

I decided to copy Gustav Klimt “Kiss,” believing I could experience his way of seeing and expression. I researched him extensively, pouring over articles, watching a fascinating documentary: What Ever Happened to Klimt's Golden Lady?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk5YNt6Q4Z8).

I’m showing this painting in February as my Valentine's Day gift. It is my statement to the love and inspiration that I've received. Thank you Gustav Klimt. --Mariko Irie
