The Krenov School was founded in 1981 by a group of Mendocino woodworkers and woodworker and author James Krenov. It was under the auspices of the College of the Redwoods until 2017, when it was transferred to Mendocino Collge. The Program is intensive, focussing on a respect for materials, using techniques to build furniture that will last lifetimes.

The exhibitors:
Crispin Hollinshead was an instructor in the first year of the Program in 1981. Michael Burns joined very shortly afterwards. Jim Budlong started teaching in 1985, and continues to the present. Greg Smith and Ejler Hjorth-Westh began following the retirement of James Krenov in 2002. David Welter was the Shop Manager for thirty years until 2016, and is followed in that role by Todd Sorenson. Michael Burns retired in 2011 and Laura Mays started as Lead Instructor. Mollie Ferguson came on board for several months in 2017.
