Artist Statement:
In her latest collection of watercolor and oil paintings, Mariko Irie addresses the modern sense of global uncertainty. Finding center in a world of confusion, her work serves as a visual meditation, encouraging viewers to find their center and reconnect with their inner light.
Irie identifies the Mendocino Coast as a sanctuary for this healing process. Her new works are designed to capture the quiet, peaceful energy of the coast, acting as a vessel for the vibrations of love and tranquility she experiences there. Mariko Irie’s technical mastery is rooted in a prestigious education and decades of practice. She received her BFA from Musashino Art University in Tokyo (1973) before honing her craft on the North Coast. She studied printmaking with Robert Rhoads and realism painting with the renowned Bill Martin at the College of the Redwoods. Irie’s work has garnered significant acclaim, including:
• Selected Artist: California Contemporary Art Collection (2017-2018) at the State Capitol.
• Best Award: “Outstanding Visual Artists” at the Museum of the Living Artist, San Diego (2011).
