We Welcome Our New Guest Member — Oil Painter Ryan Grossman
Can Oil and Water Mix? Maybe so! Ryan Grossman is an amazing oil painter who depicts the water beautifully. It’s not surprising to discover that he grew up on Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest. Like him, his paintings have a quiet, thoughtful quality about them. They are exquisite in their detail. He is drawn to a wide range of subjects but mostly focuses on the beauty of our local seascapes. His work reminds us of the comfort we can find in nature, that sadly we often forget. Ryan says,"I like creating believable imagery... Especially if it can tell a story.”
Ryan now resides with his wife Erin in the town of Westport with their small dog, Alphie. Westport is a spectacular place from which to view the intersection of land and water Ryan so loves. |
Fine Woodwork Display at Northcoast Artists Gallery
We feel honored to have five alumni from the esteemed Krenov School of Fine Woodworking on display at Northcoast Artists Gallery. Their work will be on exhibit from October 2018 through March 2019.
James Krenov is renowned for his many books on woodworking. He came to Mendocino in the late 1970’s to teach a workshop at the College of the Redwoods. His knowledge and principles were so well received that he was persuaded to stay on and establish a school of fine woodworking. During his tenure the Krenov School gained an international reputation for excellence and continues to attract students from all over the world. It was recently transferred from the College of the Redwoods to the auspices of Mendocino College. Krenov died about 10 years ago but his legacy lives on and is visible in each one of these artists.
The featured woodworkers are: Laura Mays, (current Director and instructor at the school), Michael Burns (retired Director), and former students Tom Lees, Joshua Sterns and Robin Wilson. Each of these woodworkers has a unique style and direction. They create with the most beautiful woods, giving life and shape to just about every object they can imagine. The craftsmanship is inspiring.
Please come in and enjoy the regeneration of this disappearing art form! The artist at the front desk will be happy to assist you in showing you all the details.
