From the Center:
Mandala Series
in Velvet, Silk and Stitching
20 X 20 inch - framed.
Inspiration for this series came from my collection of mandala drawings created over the last five years. From over 100 pieces I chose a group relating to the heart, our physical and emotional center. It is a powerful focus for the mandala's purpose of healing and transformation. I have transferred the drawings to black velvet with stitching, beading and silk applique. These images are echoed as well in stitched and framed monoprints on silk fabric.

The six preceding works are intricately hand stitched and beaded with silk and cotton embroidery threads on black velvet, stitched on stretched gray linen and finished with black metal frames. These themes were used as inspiration for the series of monoprints that follow.

My work currently involves a variety of explorations in fabric surface design, including silk painting, natural fiber dying, quilting, silkscreening, printing and foiling. A textiles degree from UC Davis merged my interest in fine art and fabrics which has continued to the present. In addition, working with the color's endless possibilities and combinations has recently fascinated me. My images are many times inspired by the beautiful natural environment of Mendocino County with its mountains, vineyards and coastline.
