Polished smoke fired stoneware, with grasses, feathers, and beads. 7"X 3 1/2"
$60.00

My environment is a deep source of inspiration for me. My studio and
cabin are located on the edge of a lush and serene marshland in the
coastal region of Mendocino County. From my windows, overlooking
the estuary below me as it enters the Pacific, I see endless life
and beauty. The sea air, winter storms, herons and my garden are
sources of great joy and revelation.

The grasses and twigs used in the burnished pots are gathered in the
marshes and meadows of my Mendocino home.

Polished smoke fired terra-cotta, with woven shoulder of dracena or watsonia, 12 " X 7"
$300.00

My most powerful work reflects a kind of primal quality that is
expressly mine and yet has a link to other cultures and times. A metaphor
I like to use for my work is this:
The vessel is like the body,
and the interior space is like the spirit.

Polished smoke fired stoneware mask, 6" X 11"
$200.00

The animal sculptures, the vessels, masks and shrines all point to a
radiance beyond the mere materials used or seen. When we truly look one
another in the eye, when we open to the spirit of a person, place,
animal or thing, we go beyond our limitations. When we allow ourselves
to commune in such a way, we are invited into a vast realm in which we
are no longer separate from others. When we allow our hearts to open to
these frontiers, our mundane concerns are placed in a different
perspective. Likewise, when the spirit is honored, whether you call it
love, or God or kindness, or prayer, there is an opening for a new kind
of living.

Smoke fired terra-cotta, 12" X 12"
$275.00

The polished smoke-fired pieces exhibit the natural beauty of the red
and white stonewares. The elephant of central importance to Asian and
African cultures, represents wisdom (ears), abundance (belly), and courage (trunk).

The act of creating is a mysterious experience. The spark of
inspiration is lit and an idea takes on a shape, a color, a personality,
a spirit. As I learn to lead and follow the direction of the piece I am
working with, I find that it is leading and following me. The curve of
an elephant's belly, the folds of skin-these things present themselves
as though I were in the company of such a creature, instead of a warming
lump of clay.

Temple Maasai (19"x10"x6") $600

Ultimately, my work is about connection,
about us as humans in relationship to each other,
and to the animals and plants, and to the spirit, and the light.

Hand polished smoke fired vessel (19.5" x 10.5") $390

We are so fortunate to have one other, to celebrate our own unique
voices, and to express our gratitude. My work is about this.

Prices do not include tax, shipping and handling. All pieces are designed for indoor use and are not waterproof. Allow 4 weeks for delivery. To customize a piece please call Nansee at 707-964-6841

I feel a kinship with early Mesoamerican and Chinese potters and weavers. Like these early artists I use simple materials: terra-cotta with grasses and vines gathered around my home at Ten Mile River. I polish my pots with a piece of agate and fire them in the earth.

My glazed and painted animal bowls (not shown), known affectionately as "Critter bowls", are found in many local kitchens and are regularly added to collections as new designs emerge.

My clay temples are based on an interest in sacred architecture. They can serve as a personal altar, lamp, or lighted feature.
